Happy Holi...Halloween???

November 1, 2019

Dear Families,

Well, it was a snowy but wonderful Halloween! Thanks to all of you for your support of our Halloween/Fall Festival events!

DISTRICT UPDATES

COME CELEBRATE THE ARTS!
Please come join us on Saturday from 10AM-2PM at LOTUS for a free opportunity to celebrate the
Arts and STEM in D114, as well as to learn about career options in our area!

CONGRATS TO OUR BOARD
On Tuesday night, the D114 Board of Education was recognized for achieving another recognition award from the state of Illinois! This is a huge achievement...very few boards achieve this honor, let alone for 7 consecutive years!

Way to go, D114!

MORE GREAT NEWS
We received formal notification this week that both our schools achieved COMMENDABLE status
from the state of Illinois! This means both our sites are working exactly in ways that make a difference
for students, and our students are making growth! Yay, D114!

Wrapping up Quarter 1!

October 11, 2019

Dear Families,

I hope it's been a terrific week! We're almost a full quarter into the year...can't believe it!

DISTRICT UPDATES

INCLEMENT WEATHER LATE START SCHEDULE--NEW!!!!
In preparation for inclement weather, we’re THRILLED to announce that we’ve developed a new option for nasty weather days! We’ll now have a delayed start plan. The other surrounding districts have this as an option, and--since we all make closure decisions together--this allows us to have the same options as Grant, Big Hollow, and Gavin!

If needed, the late start schedule will be as follows:
LOTUS SCHOOL
9:00AM-2:20PM, No AM Preschool

STANTON SCHOOL
9:40AM-3:05PM

Additional Information:
  • Any closure/delayed start will be communicated ASAP for family planning.
  • PM preschool will run as normal on a late start day.
  • If a late start is called on a Wednesday, we will NOT do an early release and will end at the times listed above.
  • Bus service will be provided, with pick ups starting approximately 90 minutes later than the usual start time.

I’ll post all our severe weather procedures in November...and I’ll also keep my fingers crossed that we won’t need to use any of them this winter!

Please reach out with any questions!

BOOK BUDDIES!
Book Buddies started this Thursday at Lotus and will continue into next week.  Stanton’s program will take place next week. Book Buddies (Lotus) / BFF (Stanton) is a program where our PTA (Parent Teacher Association) purchases a book for each student in our district in the Fall & in the Spring.  Your child will be able to keep the book he or she picks out. Students will put their names in the books, and a bookmark and additional information will be included, too! The students get so excited about this. We are grateful for the PTA's support and this wonderful program.

Thanks, PTA!

Just a reminder, this book IS NOT a library book.  Sometimes the students get confused. All Lotus & Stanton library books have a barcode on the back of the book that says LOTUS SCHOOL or STANTON SCHOOL.  Any questions, please feel free to contact the school.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
Stanton School Student Council partnered with St. Vincent DePaul once again this year to provide coats and blankets to those in need in our local community.  SC ran a coat drive from September 1 through Oct. 9th. Donations were collected from our school community. Mr. Fischer collected, cleaned. stored and delivered all that was donated.  The coats were made available to the local community at St. Bede's Church on Saturday, October 12th. The leadership from St. Vincent DePaul reported that they were able to help 97 “neighbors in need” (58 adults, 39 children)!!! It was a huge success thanks to our partnership.
