Gearing Up!

January 31, 2020

Dear Families,

My favorite part of each day is getting to talk to our students to see how they are doing,

what they are learning, and what they like about school. This week, I've gotten hugs, high
fives, and lots of input from students that they really like being here...they feel appreciated,
supported, and connected. They also tell me that they are learning A LOT, which is the
ultimate goal. Thank you for trusting us with your most important people--they are very
important to us, too!

DISTRICT UPDATES

REFERENDUM UPDATE
At their December meeting, the Board of Education unanimously approved ballot language
to place a referendum on the March 17, 2020 ballot. This decision asks our community to
consider a ZERO TAX RATE CHANGE that would allow the District to reallocate funds that
have been used, until now, to pay the bond on Lotus to address other immediate
priorities since the bond will be paid in full in the near future.

Please find linked here list of questions you may have about this
important effort. This is a great opportunity for our District, so please reach out if you have
any questions or need more information.

CORONAVIRUS
Please find information from the Lake County Health Department on this health issue.
We are monitoring closely and will take any steps we need to to keep students and
staff healthy!

NO SCHOOL FRIDAY, 2/14
Just a reminder that school will NOT be in session on February 14--we have a District
Institute Day full of learning for our staff.

WINTER WEATHER
Please be sure to visit our website to stay current on winter weather processes. I'd love to
say that we WON'T need to use these...but chances are good that we will. Remember, we've added a DELAYED START SCHEDULE for this year, so take a peek at what those bus pick up times will be when/if we run a delayed start.

Bright Days in D114!

January 17, 2020

Dear Families,

We've had another BRIGHT week at Lotus and Stanton. It's so exciting to see how much
our students are growing and learning each day!

DISTRICT UPDATES

SCHOOL CLOSED ON MONDAY, JANUARY 20 IN HONOR OF
DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR.

MARCH ELECTION UPDATE
At their December meeting, the Board of Education unanimously approved ballot language
to place a referendum on the March 17, 2020 ballot. This decision asks our community to
consider a ZERO TAX RATE CHANGE that would allow the District to reallocate funds that
have been used, until now, to pay the bond on Lotus to address other immediate
priorities since the bond will be paid in full in the near future.

We'll be putting a list of key points on the website, and I will email these facts to all our
families next week. However, I wanted to share the Board's decision with you so you can ask
questions. Please feel free to contact me directly for information or to ask me anything you'd
like to know about the facts of this proposal.

RAPTOR
Our first priority is always student safety. One key tool we have is the Raptor system, our
identification system. Every person who enters either school building must check in and be
issued a name tag. Even if you've already done this, we'll need you to do it again
for the update to our system. THANKS to everyone who has already had their licenses
re-scanned.
Thanks--we know this can be a pain, but it's all for student safety!

MOBILE DENTIST
The Mobile Dentist is coming to Lotus and Stanton on February 10th and 11th. Forms will be
coming home with every student today! If you would like your student to be seen by the mobile
dentist, please fill out the form and return it to the office as soon as possible.

Additional copies will also be available in the office of each school. If you have any questions,
please call Jessica Lanners, our district nurse, at (847) 973-4229.
