August 30, 2019
Dear Families,
This week, we welcomed our Early Childhood students to school! They have done an INCREDIBLE job coming to school, learning all the routines, and having fun, too! PreK is such a happy place, and we truly love our littlest learners! And...our K-8 kiddos have had a really great week, too!
Thanks to everyone who came for Curriculum Nights this week! We have more next week, and we really appreciate your time and attendance.

District Updates
Student Safety Keys
For the safety of our students, please:
- Take a peek at this video from the Lake County Police. Great reminders for driving with school buses on the road.
- Remember---we have Early Release EVERY Wednesday. This time allows our staff to work and learn together. This means your children will be off buses/need to be picked up earlier than a regular day. Please see the calendar for the times for you!
- All Preschool and Kindergarten students MUST be met at their end of day stop by an adult. This is strictly for student safety. Drivers will wait 2 minutes at a stop for an adult to greet these little ones. If an adult does not come to meet the child, he/she will be taken back to Lotus for family/emergency contact pick up.
- Students will be brought back to their home school if, at the end of the route, they are still on the bus. Family members/emergency contacts will be called for pick up.
- Students will have assigned seats on the bus. This leads to a more pleasant--and safe--ride for everyone!
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and partnership!
Breakfast and Lunch Are FREE!
Please remember that, beginning with this school year, D114 is part of the Federal Community Eligibility Provision (or CEP), meaning that ALL students have access to free lunch and breakfast. The district is reimbursed by the federal government for costs, and this makes breakfast and lunch one less thing for our families to worry about. Students can still bring a lunch if they choose. but the school offered lunch is free to everyone.
Board of Education Vacancy
At the August 13, 2019 Board of Education meeting, Kimberly Sherwin resigned her position. Ms. Sherwin served as a Board member since 2015, and she was a key voice in ensuring the District was fiscally responsible when making decisions. She was also a huge supporter of our efforts.
Please contact me if you are interested in applying for the open two-year position on the D114 Board of Education. Please click here for more information!
Ronald McDonald Mobile Clinic---FREE Physicals and Immunizations
The Ronald McDonald Clinic is coming to back to D114. They will be at Lotus on September 12th and Stanton 13th. These clinics are free of charge to those who have Medicaid or no insurance. If your student is entering PreK, kindergarten or 6th grade, this is the perfect opportunity to fulfill those physical and immunization requirements. If you are interested in taking advantage of this great program, please visit our website www.d114.org or contact Mrs. Lanners, our district nurse, to obtain the necessary paperwork. Paperwork must be turned in no later than September 6th and is required for your student to be seen.
